What is FirstSpot HotSpot?
FirstSpot HotSpot is high-speed wireless Internet access available in convenient public locations such as restaurants, coffee houses, sports bars, airports, and convention centers. You can access the Internet or your corporate intranet at speeds up to 50 times faster than dial-up by using either a laptop or handheld that is Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless-enabled.

What do I need to access the internet at a FirstSpot location?
  1. First you will need a laptop or handheld with Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless capability. Most new devices come with wireless capability built in. If not, you can purchase a Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless network card for most laptops and many handhelds at your local computer store.
  2. Next you need a FirstSpot account. Sign up for a free account on our web site.
  3. Last, purchase a FirstPASS to activate your access time.

How does the service work?
At each FirstSpot location we install an access point that converts a high speed Internet connection to a wireless radio signal. Upon opening a web browser, a laptop, handheld, or tablet PC equipped with wireless network card will pick up the signal and a FirstSpot login page will automatically appear. A customer enters their user name and password, their account status is verified, and Internet access is immediately available for use to check email, surf the web, or connect via a secure VPN to the corporate network.

Can I access my corporate network using a FirstSpot HotSpot?
Yes, you may access your corporate network by using a virtual private network (VPN) if your employer has provided you with a VPN account. Configure your VPN according to your employer instructions. Initiate an Internet connection at any FirstSpot location choosing to use your VPN connection. FirstSpot endeavors to provide extra security at each hotspot, however, it is important to recognize that inherently there are security risks on a wireless network. FirstSpot strongly recommends that its customers take measures to ensure the security of their wireless connections, such as virtual private networks (VPNs), encryption and firewalls.

Do I need to download or install any special software to connect to the FirstSpot network?
The FirstSpot network does not require extra software. An automatic login page appears when a web browser is opened on a wireless capable device (laptop, handheld, etc.).

Can I connect using a Palm or IPaq handheld device?
Yes, most handhelds that support Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless technology are compatible with the FirstSpot network.

Where are the FirstSpot Locations?
Use the FirstSpot Wi-Fi finder on our web site to locate a hotspot.

How can I tell if I'm at a FirstSpot Location?
FirstSpot provides marketing support to each FirstSpot venue: Window decals with the FirstSpot logo, brochures, table tents, menu inserts. If you don't notice one of these you can still check by opening your web browser. A FirstSpot login page will appear at any FirstSpot venue.

My favorite restaurant / cafe / hotel / meeting room doesn't have FirstSpot, what can I do?
Talk to the manager and ask for FirstSpot, then give us a call or send us an email with contact information for both the venue and you. Since this is your favorite place we want to be there with you. To celebrate a new installation we will reward you with a free month of service.

How much does the service cost?
We offer a variety of affordable plans for your needs. The Services portion of our web site details each available plan.

How do I subscribe?
Go to our Join Now page or if at a FirstSpot hotspot create a new account from the login page. The first step is to complete a short form to create an account. Next you are brought to the account management section where you have a choice to pay now, or pay later. Subscriptions can be for as little as one hour, or as much as 30 days.

I get online right away?
Yes! Once you've signed up, your account is active and ready to use.


International/Domestic Roaming

What is roaming?
Roaming is the ability to use your FirstSpot hotspot account on another party's network. When you use your login and password at a roaming location, your information is sent to us for authentication. Once we have authenticated your login and password, you can begin using the service to access the Internet.

Does my Service Plan allow roaming?
Currently all FirstSpot service plans allow roaming.

Will I be charged if I roam?
You may incur an additional charge for roaming on another party's network.

Who do I call if I have questions?
If you have questions about your FirstSpot hotspot account, roaming service, or technical difficulties, please call Customer Service at 1-866-246-8776 (1-866-2HotSpot), or if you have a Wi-Fi service account with one of our Roaming partners and have questions, please call your Wi-Fi service provider.
